OBEDIENCE

The strange thing about Williams was that nobody had ever seen him. The faculty guidebook showed a gray box labeled NOT PICTURED; group photos in the Winchester yearbooks only showed Williams’s hand or arm, even though the captions advertised his presence. The college’s website gave a brief curriculum vitae but no photographic evidence. By that Monday afternoon, the first day of classes for the fall term at Winchester University, the search for Williams had, for some of his students, become almost compulsive. It was as if Williams were hiding himself from them, as if he were teasing them somehow. It had become a tradition at Winchester for students to find a picture of their professors before classes began; in this way, it was commonly believed, they could allay some of the anxiety when the man or woman strode into the room.

Isolagen Modifies Ongoing Clinical Program For Acne Scars

FDA has provided follow-up on the Phase III program investigating Isolagen's Therapy for the treatment of moderate to severe acne scars. The FDA reiterated that there are no safety issues that would prevent the initiation of the proposed studies. However, the FDA asked the Company to further clarify certain protocol issues and raised questions related to the acne scar Evaluator Assessment Scale and Photo Guide. The FDA recommended that in order to address these issues, the Company should conduct a Phase II study; therefore, the Company will propose modifying the ongoing Phase III Study IT- A-008 as a Phase II/III study (as discussed further below). The FDA requests are specific to the acne scar clinical program and do not impact the Company's ongoing, pivotal Phase III clinical program evaluating the Isolagen Therapy for the treatment of nasolabial folds, or wrinkles.Isolagen's two randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled acne scar clinical trials (IT-A-008 and IT-A-009) of approximately 120 patients eachwere designed and powered as Phase III studies.

Dade schools eye advertising revenue

At the urging of the School Board, Superintendent Rudy Crew and his staff are exploring the possibility of allowing advertising in schools as a possible stream of revenue for the cash-strapped district.

While ads abound in other South Florida school districts, the move by the Miami-Dade School Board is nonetheless controversial. Critics say children are already inundated with advertising, and that a captive audience of students shouldn't be bombarded with the wiles of Madison Avenue.

''The perception is that advertising in schools is a free source of money,'' said Robert Weissman, managing director of Commercial Alert, a Washington-based consumer group. ``That isn't true. There are huge costs involuntarily being taken out on the kids.''

Advocates say allowing advertising encourages partnerships between local businesses and schools.

EXPO Magazine’s 2006 Best New Show Award Winners

In addition to e-mail and online advertising, they ran about 100 print ads a year for both markets, all of which were traded. The cost: About $2 million, says Pretner.

The results: The first show attracted 60 percent of the top 200 U.S. retailers, including buyers from all 50 states and 83 countries, and featured 10 of the top 25 U.S. furniture manufacturers. Capitalizing on the success of the first show and lease-up of the building, World Market Center received $225 million in additional financing for construction of Phase Two, which is already fully leased, and future building at the complex. World Market Center launched the second Las Vegas Market in January 2006.

Lessons learned: Forecasting attendance was a moving target, say Pretner. World Market Center doubled its original estimates.

Ivorians, hosts close in on the prize

Before a ball had even been kicked in this year's CAF Africa Cup of Nations, many experts were picking out Ghana or Côte d'Ivoire as eventual champions. Both remain two games away from glory, but they moved a massive step closer on Sunday, delivering performances that in vastly different ways made the case for their respective championship credentials.

Depth of character, reams of skillIn Sunday's first quarter-final, Ghana were made to work desperately hard for their last-four berth. Up against a fine Nigeria side, Claude Le Roy's men drew strength from their vociferous fans to draw level after falling behind in the 35th minute. They then suffered another setback when reduced to ten men but were able to carve out a winner despite Nigeria's numerical advantage. "My boys put in an enormous team effort," said Le Roy after the game.

World's biggest observation wheel

We're actually ahead of time and on budget," said David Beevers, general manager of the Singapore Flyer.

"It's all systems go."

The wheel will start twirling just before dusk Monday evening.

The attraction's first three nights were sold out, Mr Beevers said. Companies and individuals paid $7000, an auspicious number in Chinese culture, for the first rides.

"Through the month of February... it's a whole series of private events each day that's going to allow us to ramp up to full opening March 1 for the public," said Mr Beevers.
