Scotching the myth
This came about as a result of the economic and political centralism that worked to keep Scotland down and to favour the south of England where the large population resulted in political domination. As a young man I was proud to support Scottish Nationalism because it made sense. I always found the superior attitude of the English and their disdain for Scots quite disgusting. Finally, has the Herald come to the realization that an independent Scotland is a future reality and are planning to become the real voice of this new and wonderful Scoland. Oh I wish I lived back in Glasgow where I could work towards our glorious speration. .
Ronaldo fluffs his lines as Spurs' backbone shows
Arsenal are two points in front of us now and it will be nip and tuck until the end of the season. You cannot say who is going to win the league this season, but it looks like going all the way to the end.' Spurs boss Juande Ramos was right to take the positives from a performance that epitomised just how far he has taken this group of players in the last few weeks. 'It's very frustrating to lose a goal in the final moments, but I feel pleased with the level of many individual performances,' said the Spaniard, again speaking through a translator. 'It's good that we are coming away from a game against Manchester United feeling disappointed with a draw. I'm satisfied with the performances of Woodgate and Hutton and feel we are taking some steps forward.' This may prove to be a crucial point in United's pursuit of a second straight Premier League crown as they proved they can find a way out of a hole on a day when their match winner fluffed his lines.
Tide Turns To Positive as E-mails Flood Town Offices in Support of ...
The most obvious thing I note is that loutravieso him/herself hasn't managed to make it all the way through either the Constitution or the Declaration. For that matter, he obviously didn't understand the portion of the Declaration quoted in the article. He advocates arrest and imprisonment based on Ideas. Not to mention that little side trip to HELL. His attitude is in clear violation of the Constitution he challenges US to understand and he espouses the exact sort of behaviour which prompted the founding fathers to commission Jefferson to write the declaration in the first place. .
European firms face Y2K legal chaos in wake of Good Samaritan Act
A US law could turn the wrath of Y2K litigation on European companies. President Clinton signed the Year 2000 Information and Readiness Disclosure Act - dubbed the Good Samaritan Act - into law on 19 October. The act grants US companies limited immunity from Y2K litigation. Businesses will be able to nominate certain past statements about their Y2K preparedness and the compliance of their products, which can't then be used against the company in a future lawsuit. European companies need to move fast to take advantage of the Act though. Those who do business with US companies or operate in the US must nominate any qualifying statements by 3 December. "The implications for US businesses are colossal, absolutely colossal," explained Tony Lewis, chief executive of the CSSA.
Further Reflections on the MacBook Air
Apple didn't make it easy to devise a wireless alternative. The Air lacks the MacBook Pro's Express Card slot, so that option is out. AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon all offer USB modems for their wireless data services, but I have yet to find one that fits in the Air's very cramped USB port without use of an extension cord, which makes for a very clumsy arrangement, especially when you want to connect on the fly. If there were one thing I could change on the Air, this would be it. As it stands, the lack of a wireless broadband option is probably a dealbreaker for me. In and of itself, the lack of a built-in CD/DVD drive isn't much of a drawback. You can always use an external drive. I left the Apple external Superdrive (which, incidentally works only with the Air because of its high power draw) on my desk, but used the ThinkPad's clunkier read-only drive for movies on the plane without trouble.
NY Giants win Super Bowl
Gambling that he couldn't escape the pocket, the Giants came after him from the start. After spotting the Giants an early 3-0 lead, the Patriots responded with a 12-play, 56-yard march that put them on the Giants 1-yard line when the first quarter ended. The key play came when New York linebacker Antonio Pierce was flagged for pass interference on Benjamin Watson in the end zone. It took Maroney two carries to give the Patriots the lead, scoring over right guard three seconds into the second quarter. New York answered with a 46-yard drive to New England's 14. On third-and-5, Manning hit Steve Smith with a low throw. Smith bobbled the ball, and cornerback Ellis Hobbs picked off the deflection and returned it 23 yards to the Patriots 33.
Jose Canseco Tries to Drag Magglio Ordonez Through the Mud But Only ...
I don't think anybody was under the impression that Jose Canseco's motives in helping to blow the steroids controversy wide open was completely altruistic. But he is going to be looked upon as a necessary catalyst in helping get this problem in the spotlight with his first book. But for those who want to look upon him as some sort of protagonist in this mess, there's this:Jose Canseco offered to keep Magglio Ordonez "clear" in his upcoming book if the Detroit Tigers outfielder invested in a movie project promoted by Canseco, The New York Times reported Wednesday night.Extortion, huh Jose? Great. So much for that Pulitzer Prize. More after the jump. The newspaper cited "a person in baseball with knowledge of the situation" in a report on its Web site and said four people in baseball, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Major League Baseball referred the matter to the FBI.Ordonez decided not to go forward with a complaint, so the FBI didn't open a formal investigation, the newspaper said.
