Katherine and Josh Care For All Their Four-Legged Friends
Newlyweds Katherine Heigl and Josh Kelley took their many (how many? Pet got to the bottom of it) doggies of all shapes and sizes to the vet in LA yesterday afternoon before heading out at night to celebrate Josh's birthday. It looks like one of their pups is having some trouble getting out of the back of the car these days, poor baby. Katherine may be starting to talk about kids, but it looks like she and Josh definitely have their hands full of leashes for the time being. Hopefully all their pooches are having a good time getting accustomed to their unknown diggs since the couple finally moved into their newly finished home over the weekend. Hopefully she has a chance to sit back and enjoy it for a second before her next project — she just signed on to star in the romantic comedy, The Ugly Truth, alongside Gerard Butler.
OfficeTeam Offers Tips for Dealing with Unprofessional Colleagues
MENLO PARK, Calif. -- In many office environments, employees have less than collegial relationships, a new survey shows. Twenty-nine percent of respondents recently surveyed said they work with someone who is rude or unprofessional on the job. Of those, 68 percent felt coworkers frequently behave badly -- and not just to the people who report to them. More than half (59 percent) of all workers surveyed said their boorish colleagues are equal-opportunity offenders, upsetting subordinates, peers and superiors alike. The survey was developed by OfficeTeam, a leading staffing service specializing in the placement of highly skilled administrative professionals. The interviews were conducted by an independent research firm and include responses from 532 full- or part-time workers 18 years of age or older and employed in office environments.
Former Miss Virginia: Everyone has 'body drama'
It's hard to believe that a former Miss Virginia might have had body image problems, but Martinsville native Nancy Redd, Miss Virginia of 2003, did when she was a teenager. It was out of those insecurities that she has just published a book for adolescent girls titled "BODY DRAMA" with frank answers to embarrassing questions and real, often explicit, pictures of women's bodies and problems with their bodies. "My own body gave me the idea for the book," Redd said last week. "In middle and high school, I'd often sneak into the health section of the bookstore or library and frantically flip through the dozens of puberty and body books on the shelves, ignoring the paragraphs of clinical text, searching urgently for photographic evidence that I was not a weird girl - proof by comparison, if you will.
Dentil moldings, modern baths, and pond views
Having no garage is a small price to pay for a sunny historic house just off Route 2, with views of Spy Pond, and walking distance to Arlington Center. A driveway can handle two cars, and the side mudroom entry makes it easy to dump outside gear. The front entrance makes a statement up a slight hill from the main road (keeping the inside quiet). It is painted pale pink with a bold portico; this, combined with concrete steps and mature plantings, beckons toward an inside that is mostly true to its era, but also includes updates. It's a bit abrupt to enter into the living room, but the wonderful older features distract from that concern - coffered ceilings, stained-glass windows, dentil molding, and narrow hardwood floors. A medium-sized dining room shines with a magnificent half-round triple-panel window.
Romance served at East Bay restaurants
With a great reputation for fresh, local and healthful cuisine, husband and wife Curtis and Esin deCarion show how a couple can make the world a better place. In addition to the regular menu, Cafe Esin will be offering a three-course prix-fixe menu for $39.95. Start with an arugula salad with grapes, avocado, blood oranges, feta cheese and pine nuts salad. Move on to a wild mushroom risotto with grilled scallops and finish with one of Esin's signature desserts -- bittersweet chocolate ganache tart. Cafe Cacao. 914 Heinz Ave., Berkeley. 510-843-6000, http://www.cafecacao.biz. Valentine's Day is extra-special at this restaurant located inside the Scharffen Berger Chocolate Factory. It will be the first dinner service offered in months and will be followed the next night with the introduction of weekly dinner service (Friday night only; the restaurant is already open for lunch daily and brunch on weekends).

Wage subsidies and unemployment insurance are attractive policy options, but the ultimate goal must be to increase the size of the skilled workforce relative to unskilled workers. As Mr Krugman states, "[H]ighly educated workers in the United States benefit from higher wages and expanded job opportunities because of trade." Investing in policies to enlarge the proportion of highly educated workers in America must become a high priority. Finally, this discussion needs to include several important international issues. Imports from China and Mexico are more damaging to unskilled Americans because their producers are so poor, but because their producers are so poor, it is vital that we do not deny them the opportunity to develop their economies. Just as importantly, we should recognise that these development dynamics will not persist indefinitely.
