Celebrities Celebrate Art
LA is so much more than Disneyland and Hollywood studios. Last night the city of the stars celebrated the opening of The Broad Contemporary Art Museum at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. An A-list crowd including Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tony Bennett, Dustin Hoffman and of course The Cruises showed their support. Katie looked beautiful even if we're not loving the scarf while Tom looked perfectly put together in his three piece suit. Christina continued to show off her curves in a bold blue dress while playing it up for the cameras. Joel Madden kept things rock and roll while Nicole looked elegant, well rested and calm in her soft taupe colored dress. They came to cheer on Grandpa Lionel Richie who was part of the evening's entertainment but they didn't stay long since they went on to Clive Davis' Pre-Grammy party.

Leaders from PMA, CPMA and United Fresh along with representatives from more than 30 companies from a broad cross section of the produce supply chain met on January 9th to convene the Produce Traceability Initiative with the goal of developing an action plan to establish a consistent whole-chain traceability solution. The group reached agreement on several important elements. In addition to endorsing GS1 and beginning at case-level initially, the Committee encouraged companies to move toward item-level coding where feasible, as many produce products are now packaged for the consumer, thereby offering a viable option for providing traceability to the item level.

Congress sends economic aid plan to Bush
Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York and Barack Obama of Illinois, skipped the vote. The Republican front-runner, Sen. John McCain of Arizona, cast his first vote of the year on the bill, voting "yes." McCain had missed the vote the evening before. Reid defended his decision to try to pressure Republicans on the larger proposal by offering it as a take-it-or-leave-it proposition along with the rebates for the elderly and veterans. "I feel very strongly that we did the right thing," Reid said. Democrats said Republicans would pay a political price for their opposition. "If today (Republicans) are squirming because they voted 'no,' that's what democracy is all about," said New York Sen. Charles Schumer, the head of the Senate Democratic Campaign Committee. Fires hit rain-starved Carolinas, Va.
The high winds and wildfires caused both Democratic presidential hopefuls — Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama — to cancel appearances scheduled in Roanoke, Va. Virginia's presidential primaries are on Tuesday. Thousands of customers in the region still had no electricity because of damage caused by the fires and wind. .
Nov. 15th - RUNNING WOES
Through nine games, the Bears are averaging a league worst 3.0 yards/carry running the ball. Yet, Bears center Olin Kreutz doesn't feel the offense has hit rock bottom. "Oh no," Kreutz laughed. "No, no. I've been here a long time. We've had some bad offense around here. It's not the worst it's been, but this is pretty bad. We're just not very good at running the ball right now and the way to improve it is everybody work on it, but we've been saying that for a long time now. So, what do we have to do? If we knew we would have done it. We recognize it. We're embarrassed by it. We're trying hard to get it fixed." .
Darfur peace talks in Libya produce only an emboldened Khartoum
As recently as November 9, 2007, Secretary General Ban Ki-moon noted yet again that Khartoum has failed to accept the proposed civilian police and security personnel---more than three months after Resolution 1769, and a year after discussions of such a force were begun in Addis Ababa. China is again supporting Khartoum without qualification despite other forms of obstructionism by the regime, including the refusal to grant land necessary for housing UNAMID forces; denying landing rights for critically important heavy transport aircraft; denying adequate port access; refusing to guarantee unrestricted flights; and refusing to guarantee reporting independence for monitors and other personnel. These forms of obstructionism are detailed in a recent Amnesty International report (see below), as well as by a number of UN officials.
