Wolfowitz, a conservative long supported by US President George Bush, had taken over his top post on an anti-corruption platform, so the appointment was viewed as hypocritical and violating bank regulations." The fact is that Wolfowitz arranged the position for his girlfriend, following the guidelines approved and communicated to him by the directors of the bank. Wolfowitz only resigned after the bank recognized this fact and cleared him of any wrongdoing. After all, when a top down corrupt institution accuses their top dog of wrongdoing, whether he did or not, is irrelevant. His reputation is destroyed. That's politics, folks. Richard A Brown

K.J. gets overlooked, but shouldn’t
So I offered my services for a few hours today, since I'm supposed to be off. Ink-stained wretch to record-store nerd. Love it. I'll be keeping up with the blog on my laptop while I fulfill what once seemed a dream job for me — working in a record store (I didn't understand you weren't going to get rich working in such a store. Or anything close to rich). For an afternoon, I can spin tunes and sell some CDs, provided folks stop in between noon and 3:30, when my man got some relief coming in. And since Don's a big baseball fan and all, he's even offering a 20-percent spring-training/Braves-MIB discount on used CDs for one week starting today. Just mention the code DOB to the person behind the register. No kidding. See ya at the record store.
Amy Winehouse's Grammy Performance — Love It or Leave It?
While Amy Winehouse couldn't quite make it to last night's Grammy Awards in LA, she still performed during the show via telecast from London. It was her first big outing since saying yes, yes, yes to rehab and the night's big winner looked a lot better than she has recently. That being said, I'm sure she still has a ways to go in terms of getting better. Tasha might be flying along when suddenly she feels a little lift under her wings and – aha! – starts to understand. The elevator is going up, and she is on it. The next time may not be quite so accidental, and, according to Dunne, she may even keep an eye out for the airborne dust and rising debris that indicate a thermal. She may also be on the lookout for other raptors that have been scouting thermals. In this manner, lifting and soaring, Tasha made her way along the coast to a barrier island in North Carolina, where near-hurricane winds forced her to lay low for a couple of days. Having watched ospreys on the marshes of Cape Cod during northeasters, I tried to imagine how Tasha would have responded to the storm. Though ospreys look large, their hollow bones give them little ballast; most actually weigh less than 4 pounds.
One Woman's World
I don't care if they come with a padded wagon and a white jacket, I am not going to do it. I will never, never cut the tips of my fingernails straight across so they can be in style with today's fingernail fetish. I recently noticed that Robin McGraw (wife of the notorious Dr. Phil McGraw) had her fingernails cut straight across at the tips. Wondering if she had gotten caught in the family lawnmower or if, once again, I was running far behind the style wagon of women's fads and fashions, I asked my stylish daughter about Robin's fingernails.
'Like look-alike mannequins, most women try to market themselves by the way they look. Into this outer cesspool of insanity goes the flesh. If anything slides south, they have it pulled further north and stapled... .'
